PPR Presents The Golden Zonkies: Class of 2014

014; whether it was a year you cherished or hated, there’s no denying just how eventful the past twelve months have been—especially for video games.

From budding next-generation consoles that are gradually gaining ground after being on store shelves for nearly a year, to the challenges and questions that have shaken the industrial and culture foundations that drive the medium of video games and it’s direction; the 365thchapter we’re about  to close on has sure had a lot of shit happen in it.

And just what kind of year would it be without the annual Press Pause Radio’s Golden Zonkies awards to get their last word in?

Everything from games to events that saw the light of day in 2014, across fifteen different categories, and we have that very list for you here now. We’ll be plowing through a prestigious catalog of choices, debating with one another from beginning to end in this epic podcast, each voicing our vote for the winner of its respective category.

The only stipulation in the Golden Zonkies is that any point, a wild card can be suggested by one of the hosts if majority vote dictates that another nomination is more deserving of the award instead of the choices presently casted, but weirdly enough—it didn't happen this year....imagine that.

If you’ve got an issue with the Golden Zonkies and how it was conducted then just remember the only other rule; it’s our God Damn show and opinion anyway, so keep that in mind when you send us whatever discourse you have with our decisions after the show by doing the following:

Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. Finally, make sure to rate and subscribe to us on iTunes and YouTube, follow us on Twitch page and Twitter, and finally take part in our Facebook and Steam group!

QCF: Assassin's Creed III

The science -- scratch that -- the entire concept of genetic memory is something that exceeds top levels of comprehension; a notion with so many dimensions encompassing the theory of history inscribing itself into our very being. And while such speculation is largely dismissed in the eyes of parapsychology, it’s still a possibility. Assassin’s Creed has always focused on the theme of such an idea and, in some aspect, metaphysically manifested it in many ways beyond its science fictional approach. All of the subsequent titles have played off each other and attempted to retain traits that worked versus that which didn't, and evolve mechanics within the core elements of the overall design.

Unfortunately, time has not been kind to the principles of Ubisoft’s action-filled open world venture. With prior entry Revelations having struggled to justify its relevance within the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed III shows its age despite the effort it makes to reinvigorate the formula and sets the bar even lower for the series.

QCF: Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Trapped... Desmond Miles is trapped within his own fractured psyche, his mind, desperately at ends with distinguishing what’s real and what’s fantasy. Desmond takes the only course of action he can. He sets out to finish the story of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who also picks up the trail of his legendary forerunner, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Enter the fourth entry in Ubisoft Montreal’s open-world action game, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The epic conclusion of Brotherhood left many with an insatiable appetite to continue the fight and return to Ezio’s story, but does Revelation satisfy the hunger we’ve had?

PPR 50

We've done it. We somehow survived and reached episode 50 of Press Pause Radio. And to celebrate we are returning with a three hour long show, as well as our first show with Couchbound Network. With so many games being released in the last few months, we spend the majority of the show discussing all of them. Ser, Sean, GeorgieBoysAXE and Toast will converse about titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3. The crew then debate on what makes a "Triple A" title, and if there have been too many blockbuster titles this year. Reaching fifty episodes is a great milestone for the website, and we are so happy to have shared it with you all. Rate and review us on iTunes and Zune so we can record fifty more.
