QCF: Broken Lines (Steam)

hen deciding to review Broken Lines I was unsure why I was so interested in playing it. I am not good at all at strategy games of any kind, and I have very little interest in war themed entertainment. Then I realized what it was that drew me to the Steam digital game released by Super! Publishing. I thought back to other games that tackled turned based strategy in an alternate timeline of war in the twentieth century, and I was eager to see how the developer PortaPlay would approach this hybrid of RPG and tactics. I was happy to find out that Broken Lines takes influence from strategy games from the current generation and the recent development of mental state mechanics of newer independent role-playing games to create a solid entry into the genre. A story that sometimes misfires and AI that can frustrate does not take too much away from a challenging and satisfying experience.

QCF: Cherry Tree High: I! My! Girls!

f you dig Persona the way I do, 773's Cherry Tree High Comedy Club was a game that should have grabbed your attention last year.

It sported a social link-styled system that closely resembled Atlus' masterpiece game-changer, though its setting is obviously much less dark. I had always felt that a little something was lost in translation with Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, but it was fun nonetheless. With its moderate success, Nyu-Media saw fit to bring over the sequel to Cherry Tree High Comedy Club to Steam and other platforms as well, in the form of Cherry Tree High: I! My! Girls!.

QCF: Hatoful Boyfriend

ll right, I'm sure you were all waiting with baited breath for this review for a very long while. You probably wanted to know who it was actually going to be, what whacked-out commentary they'd have about a Dating-Sim that features male friends of the feathered avian variety. Well, it's me—and here's my review of Hatoful Boyfriend.

In Japan, Dating-Sims are a pretty big genre, and have been popularized on such systems as the PC Engine and Saturn, with many such entries as Tokimeki Memorial and Wizards Harmony (the latter we actually have over here with Team Duo.) Hatoful Boyfriend is the one of the latest games to take part in the rising movement of Dating-Sims, and kinetic visual novels that are being localized for an American audience, particularly on PC in specific.

PAX PRIME 2014: Hands-On with Geometry Wars 3 Dimensions

ne of the standout titles for the Xbox 360 during the launch of the Xbox Live Arcade was Bizarre Creations' Geometry Wars, a highly stylized frenetic Twin-Stick style shooting game with a super-high emphasis on Score Attack for players to compete on the newly-formed XBLA leaderboards. Seeing a number of sequels since its 2005 debut, including XBLA's Geometry Wars 2 and the Wii and DS' Geometry Wars Galaxies, all of its iterations are solid, competitive games that anyone can drop in and play.
