QCF: Save Me Mr. Tako!

 bought my first Game Boy when I was eight years old…I guess labor laws weren't what they used to be, because I was on the payroll for a paper route with the Barrie Advance in the third grade. Anyway, I loved my Game Boy back then more than I like some of my family today, and the old black on the green screen will always invoke a certain nostalgia for days long past. 30 years is a long-ass time.

However, as it turns out, Nicalis' Save Me Mr. Tako! instantly brings me back to my childhood as no other game has in a long time. It has the look–It has–the sound–it has the gameplay, and best of all, it's on a portable system.—kind of.

PPR Presents Late to the Party: Kirby Star Allies

ver the years, Nintendo has been privileged with a large stable of iconic franchises, and enduring characters that have gone on to appeal to audiences across the world, both old and young alike. Among those properties is their adorable pink puff-ball hero, Kirby, a character who had a title on nearly every platform from the company since the days of the NES and GameBoy.

After a year on the market, the gluttonous do-gooder is finally making his debut on the Nintendo Switch with Kirby Star Allies, which, in a surprising twist, is an adventure that’s far more traditional with his earlier outings than some of his more recent affairs. Opting more for refinement than innovation, Star Allies may arguably play it a bit too safe to make a splash among the other stellar platformers currently offered on the new console, but the game is still amazing entry in its own right.

QCF: Kirby Planet Robobot

ne of the more endearing qualities to Nintendo’s fuchsia-hued star warrior is his ability to reinvent himself in a way that’s fresh while maintaining a sense of familiarity that retains the franchise’s charm and appeal. Granted, a lot of the more innovative titles in the Kirby series are the unorthodox offshoots that focus around a certain gimmick, and het spherical hero’s platform ventures generally tend to play it safe, and expand off of what the Big N knows to already work

Kirby’s latest exploit on the 3DS however is an exception to that trend, and is easily the smoothest blend of old and new that I’ve taken in yet. Planet Robobot (trying saying that five times fast) throws the pink copy-cat into a mobile mech-suit, resulting in a twist that may just be just be the one of the most captivating directions that his side-scrolling affairs have taken in years.

QCF: Kirby's Rainbow Curse

hile Nintendo has been praised for introducing weird concepts for video games that actually manage to be innovative in design, the company tends to still play it safe when it comes to the expected conventions of their iconic properties and franchises.

There’s been one exception to that trend though, and it’s not from the Italian Plumber or Hylian Hero; it’s the bulbous pink glutton that we all know and love, and this time around, Kirby comes out rolling with the spiritual successor to his cult DS debut, Rainbow Curse—the most deceptively enjoyable title to have graced the Wii U yet.

ew Platforming games really define the very core of what it means to jump in order to live; take for example a little green toy dude by the name of Yumetarō—a creature who lives and breathes the mantra of “Platform till you die.”

Georgie, Ser, and New comer Gill join in on this latest Play Play of the adorable yet mostly confusing ride of Sunsoft’s Gimmick for the Famicom, as they try to comes to terms with the reality of all these googley dead-eyed cute things want us to die so damn badly.

Ser sits on in with George, and checks out what he’s missing on the Wii U with both, NES Remix and NES Remix 2. We check out all the nifty little tweaks and nuances, and argue over whether or not Nintendo’s still got the touch. They also get into about it Kirby games, and some other dumb shit, but that’s just the norm with them anyway.

PPR presents Limelight: Kirby's Dreamland 3

t’s a shame when there are games that release during those weird time windows or conditions that subject it to the depths of obscurity; and one such game is one of the best starring Nintendo’s pink stud.

Kirby’s Dreamland 3 was released back in 1997 on the SNES, more than a year after the release of the ongoing and mind-blowingly advanced Nintendo 64—it’s a real shame a lot of people haven’t played it, let alone heard of it. That’s why we’re taking it upon ourselves to stream it with George taking the lead, and fret not guys, if you’re loving what you’re watching then you can find the gem on the Wii U’s Virtual Console the Kirby Anniversary Collection on Wii.

QCF: Kirby's Return to Dreamland

Warp Stars abound! The stage franticly opens up with our pink puff-ball hero rushing through the Dreamland-scape with strawberry shortcake in tow, and with Kirby’s company not too far behind. Suddenly, a fantastical galleon-like vessel bursts off course from its route of reverie to a sudden crash-landing against the grassy surface of Pop-star that would make Launchpad McQuack blush.
