QCF: Mario Kart 8

espite the number of troubles plaguing Nintendo since the launch of the Wii U, there’s one consistent quality in their output that keeps them afloat, and that’s their trademark magic; that undeniably inherent charm in their titles that just focuses on delivering dumb fun.  Call it a trump card, or a desperate ace in the hole, but honestly; Nintendo loves what it does, and Mario Kart 8 is a celebration of what the brand does best—refined no less.

Which is not only fortunate for every Wii U owner out there, but reason enough to be a potential one too as with the Big N’s latest sequel to their cartoon take on Death Race 2000 is one of the more solid entries to the series.

QCF: Pikmin 3

hen gamers reflect on just what’s makes Shigeru Miyamoto so legendary, some of them generally stop the buck on what he’s contributed like Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, but others acknowledge what truly makes the man significant; his ability to imagine entire video game worlds built around concepts inspired from his everyday life.

QCF: Animal Crossing: New Leaf

This Review was Freelanced by Cody Winn; you can find his other work here.

f there's one thing that really impresses me as a gamer, it's when a developer gives me control of their game world; lent trust and the magical brush of creation, or even just modification, I become obsessed for months on end, singing the game's praises and praising the game's every pixelated inch. With a game like Animal Crossing: New Leaf, I control my destiny -- even if it comes at the price of being monetarily enslaved by a raccoon.

GDC 2013: Towerfall brings all the boys to the yard

013 is the year for the local-couch co-op play renaissance. Developers are embracing the personal open forum of pummeling their friends within inches of each other. Matt Thornsen has been developing a title that’s poised to lead the charge out of the pack with his work on Towerfall, a four-player arena fighting game that takes elements from a variable palate of ideas and makes for an indefinable label but potentially excellent slobber knocker. We had the pleasure to hang out and play Matt’s display at the Indie Mixer, and here are our thoughts.
