PAX Prime 2013: The PlayStation Jubilation

ovember 15th is fast approaching folks. Soon, the final cornerstones to the new market of hardware will arrive and with the PS4 having a head start and the flock new titles hitting the Vita—I figure I’d give a rundown of the games I played available at the Sony booth on the PAX Prime 2013 show floor that’ll be out for the buying come launch.

PAX Prime 2013: Hopping into Titanfall

earing all of the critical acclaim and buzz surrounding Titanfall, I was excited to try out the new first person shooter from Respawn Entertainment. However I had several reservations, due to the fact that anytime I have looked forward to a new shooter, I jump into the multiplayer and realize that I am terrible at shooters. Seeing as how the developers of Titanfall were originally from the same team that created the Modern Warfare series of games, I assumed I would play the multiplayer, perform horribly and never play the game again. After my time with the game, however I can say that Titanfall is my most anticipated release for the next generation of systems.

PAX Prime 2013: Experiencing The Wolf Among Us

he flicker of a single neon light cuts into the darkness in front of me. We are moments away from the end of the show floor hours for PAX Prime 2013, and I am hurried into a darkened room without much explanation of what will be inside. As I struggle to find my bearings through the tight corridor, I am greeted by a welcomed sight, something I have been waiting to see the entire convention. We were lucky enough to play through the first public demo of The Wolf Among Us, the next episodic series from Telltale Games. The anticipated follow-up to the developer’s last title has been the topic of many discussions in the enthusiast press for months, and from our first look it is easy to say that it will be a worthy successor.

PAX PRIME 2013: The Nintendo Crescendo

egardless of how critical my position on Nintendo may be as of recent, my travels on the floor led me to the familiar brand. I tasked myself with getting the best out of what the Big N had to offer. So after a couple of games later, I can safely say that while my faith is still shaken, it is far from lost—Nintendo is dropping some real winners after all this Holiday.

PAX Prime 2013: Hands-on with Ryse

ack in 2011 during Microsoft’s E3 Keynote, The people behind the color green were desperately pushing support for their new peripheral: Kinect. Ryse, a Roman gladiator action game was one of the promotions for that hands-free hotness Microsoft wanted to jazz everyone up about.

Flash forward to 2013, where all of Microsoft’s previous enthusiasm for the Kinect is significantly reduced, Ryse reemerges as an Xbox One launch title with Kinect support being wildly scaled back, so naturally, I found the development intriguing and decided to scope out just how well Crytek transitioned that shift in development, and finishing the nearly finished build the floor didn’t exactly project any positive prospect for the finished product come launch day.

PAX Prime 2013: uncovering Secret Ponchos

he fine folks at Switchblade Monkeys are huge fans of Spaghetti Westerns, evident in their upcoming PS4 release Secret Ponchos. The intense gunfights and chaotic duels of the Wild West are brought into the arena as players compete in single and cooperative modes to became the most feared outlaw. This blend of MOBA style maps, twin stick shooter controls and fighting game balancing sounds complicated on paper, but after spending time with the game we are happy to report that it is done with expert precision.
