QCF: Pokémon X/Y

or the last seventeen years, a series that hinged so much on its formulaic design has not only gone on to endure, but prosper and become one of the most successful properties in media today. The sixth generation of the Pocket Monsters made it’s very first simultaneous debut across the world on the Big N’s new edition of the iconic dual-screened pocket-sized game box, and well, it’s still sort of a big deal.

I’ll be honest with you guys, the previous iteration didn’t impress me in the slightest, it had the exact opposite effect—a sentiment that’s argued even among the most dedicated of fans of its respective community. However, The latest X and Y installment in the Pokémon dynasty is different.

Instead of pandering to systematically compulsory reaction of shoving new monsters and gimmicks to the fold—X and Y tone it down and balance it out with some of the sharpest refinements the formula yet, making it both, the most appealing and the most polished to enter the fold.

QCF: Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

hen Amnesia: The Dark Descent was released in 2010, it was a breath of fresh air into an industry that had seemed to have lost its way with horror titles for a while. Its unique tension and combat free gameplay gave the player a sense of helplessness that hadn't been experienced before. Paired up with undeniably scary set pieces this created a cult indie game that took YouTube by storm. The reaction videos to this terrifying game really hit a nerve and cemented The Dark Descent as a game every horror fan should experience.

Now it's three years later and the anticipation for this sequel has grown. Teamed up with Dear Esther creators The Chinese Room, Frictional Games is presenting us a follow up with a lot of pressure on it's back. A Machine for Pigs is this title and depending on your stance on what makes gameplay engaging, you'll either be loving it or hating it. However, one thing you unfortunately won't be is scared.

PPR Presents Lime Light: Tempo

unny that we would be doing Lime Light on more than one 32X game year…no really, it’s actually hilarious—the opportunity to do this one was just too good to pass up. One of the exclusive titles for Sega’s Mushroom-shaped add-on is one of the reasons most Sega owners would even install the 32X, and it’s from the same people that brought us Bonk, Air Zonk, and Gungrave…We’re streaming Tempo.

Tune in around Wednesday evening, September 11th, at 5:45 PM pacific time and join us in the chat on our Twitch page, getting down with the phat beats and animation so Japanese that you’ll be shouting “Nanja korya!” at all the colors coming out of your interwebs screen.

PAX Prime 2013: Hands-on with Ryse

ack in 2011 during Microsoft’s E3 Keynote, The people behind the color green were desperately pushing support for their new peripheral: Kinect. Ryse, a Roman gladiator action game was one of the promotions for that hands-free hotness Microsoft wanted to jazz everyone up about.

Flash forward to 2013, where all of Microsoft’s previous enthusiasm for the Kinect is significantly reduced, Ryse reemerges as an Xbox One launch title with Kinect support being wildly scaled back, so naturally, I found the development intriguing and decided to scope out just how well Crytek transitioned that shift in development, and finishing the nearly finished build the floor didn’t exactly project any positive prospect for the finished product come launch day.

QCF: Towerfall

ideo Games have the unique ability of making you constantly hate your friends with what should be a fun time making digitized pictures move with one another. The appeal of getting your buds and pals on a couch together, huddled around the glow of a television has always skirted towards the edge of violence and fits of rage that ranged anywhere from thrown controllers to controller unplugging. And you know, the internet makes me miss those days. The days of swearing at Bomberman because Chad pulled a dick move, or sitting back and watching Lisa ruin Mario Party because she somehow took everyone’s stars in one foul dice roll with Bowser are nearly long gone now. The good news is that the indie scene keeps the labor of love that is "couch play" alive.

PPR 74

his is quite possibly the most ridiculous E3 predictions podcast we’ve done yet.  To start, Ser hates it, Arrested Development is fucking it up, Andrew and James get wrapped in Dungeon and Dragons Next (yeah seriously, it’s like they think they’re on that other podcast or something), and George is an asshole for buying the Super Mario Bros the movie soundtrack on Vinyl. Among all the other nonsense, the gang manages to squeeze in some games from their backlog and predict some events and releases to come out of the biggest video game conference of the year, which is debuting in less than a week. There’s plenty of PS4, Xbox One, and even Ouya talk so check it out and enjoy the show.
