PPR Presents Play Play: Virtual Boy Warioland

o, your eyes do not deceive you; somehow, we were able to capture Virtual Boy footage without making the red beast have awkward intercourse with a camcorder or anything. As an intermission to our Vanillaware block, we’re going to highlight some of the best games to star Mario’s yellow doppelganger, Wario, and what better game to start us off than one of the dirty goon’s cult classics; Virtual Boy Warioland.

As we bring up memories of Nintnedo’s first confused outing into 320bithardware, we also discuss Michael Phelps which somehow lead to blood-doping, 2.5D games, Lawnmower man, and how much Stevie really dislikes New Super Mario Bros.

PPR Presents Play Play: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD-Alpha

hile the newest Sonic game that’s currently in development may care too much about athletic tape, there’s still hope for another title that was originally hyped to be one of the prettiest remakes of the Blue blur’s most iconic venture. Yeah, that’s right, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD is back on track, and George takes a few minutes his day, and yours to tell y’all why you should give a shit as he plays the original Alpha build.
This all looks gorgeous right now, sure, but the team is currently laboring towards the new engine to look even prettier...

PPR Presents Play Play: NES Remix 1+2

intendo’s no stranger to pandering to all of the inner-children within us by tugging at our nostalgia, but in this case, we might have found an exception that does more than cater to rose-tinted fandom. Ser sits on in with George, and checks out what he’s missing on the Wii U with both, NES Remix and NES Remix 2. We check out all the nifty little tweaks and nuances, and argue over whether or not Nintendo’s still got the touch. They also get into about it Kirby games, and some other dumb shit, but that’s just the norm with them anyway.

PPR Presents Play Play: Child of Light

t’s rare when a game with an attempt at being larger than life shows up out of the blue, and actually follows through with being just that; moments of play start blurring into a makings for an experience. George believed that when he initially reviewed Child of Light, and took it up on himself to show the rest of the crew what exactly they were missing out on. Ser shares his trademark cynicism, Ren can’t stop saying the word pretty, and Toast is mostly won over, but do you fight dragons? All this and more on the latest Play Play—be warned though, the footage of Child of Light may spoil certain story moments so viewer discretion is advised.

PPR Presents Play Play: Princess Crown

ack in the beginning, before George Kamitani and company started the Vanillaware brand, they worked on a project in conjunction with Sega and Atlus for the 2D Powerhouse that was the Sega Saturn; game that would become a Holy Grail of sorts on the platform before it would get rereleased again on the PSP—Princess Crown. So many accolades have been attributed to this title aside from it being the catalyst for Vanillaware, but after all this time, have those accolades held up? Should this game have seen a stateside release after all?

George doesn’t really think so, and is Andrew still excited for the game after all this time? Tune in and find out as well simultaneously discover just how good Ser’s Japanese really is, as we stumble around our understanding of it along for the ride.

PPR Presents Play Play: Muramasa: The Demon Blade

egend tells of a sword that grows in strength by feasting upon every drop of blood it spills, soaking in the rich mineral of the crimson life of every victim it claims; the mythical blade—Muramasa. George, Andrew, and Ser continue their path of playing Vanillaware titles as they discuss what makes Muramasa one of the, if arguably not, the very best title the Japanese studio has put out yet; too bad the Metroidvania design is shit, which they’ll cover too…
