PPR Presents Play Play: Super Air Zonk

k, so we did get a bit distracted when we first started our special look at the Bonk series the last couple of months and just ended up being really sporadic with our video coverage, but let me tell you, we sure as shit didn’t forget about it

This latest entry is our look at Super Air Zonk, the rare, often forgotten sequel to the shoot-em up spinoff of the iconic, bulbous-headed Neanderthal. This quote unquote “Rockabilly Paradise” goes in a significantly different direction with its gameplay in comparison to its predecessor, and Ser and George discuss upon whether or not that was a good thing, with flying bento box attacks and all.

PPR Presents Super Play: Air Zonk

his is the fifth day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

In addition to us continuing to showcase the Bonk series, this also happens to be our inaugural Super Play video; it’s like a Play Play, only we strive to finish the game from start to end, whether we do it on the first go, or we split it up.

This entry is technically a spin-off of the Bonk brand, Air Zonk; a zany, dumb shooter set in the caveman’s future, much like the Jetsons to the Flintstones. This shoot’em up a cult following, and at one point, it’s titular hero was the official mascot of Turbo hardware and products before they went under. Come check out Ser blow through this game like it was nobody’s business in this special Super Play!

PPR Presents Play Play: Hudson Selection Vol. 3: PC Genjin

his is the fourth day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

Exclusive to the land of the rising sun, The original title that started it all received a remake on the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube, and boy did Hudson take a lot of weird liberties with the visual style—which is kind of cool, but mostly disturbing.

Eh, it’s still pretty cool, but whether or not that it’s worthy enough to faithfully substitute the charm of the original is up for debate, and dammit, do we do just that! Why don’t you guys just go on ahead and click play now to check it out!

PPR Presents Play Play: Bonk's Return

his is the third day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

As strange as this may sound, this is the most recent entry into the stone-age hero's dynasty of games was java-built mobile title called Bonk’s Return; we're talking Motorola RAZR status here. With some finangling on our end, we bring to you that title for your viewing pleasure, and well, we don’t know how to feel about it, and if anything, it made us really scratch our heads over how bizarre the mobile climate of games must have been during that dark, sad time.

PPR Presents Play Play: Bonk's Adventure Arcade (Kyukyoku!! PC原人)

his is the second day of our special look at the Bonk Series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

Bonk’s Arcade, (or in this case, Kyukyoku!! PC原人 because it’s way more common than its North American counterpart) is the first title not to have been developed by RED Entertainment, as it was handled by Kaneko. While the core gameplay of Bonk is here, there are ton of unique features that’re exclusive to this title like a non-linear stage selection, and a playable female Bonk character for the second player—join us we hop in and get our asses handed to use by the cruel mistress that is 1990’s Arcade game design.

PPR Presents Play Play: Super Genjin 2 (超原人 2)

oday marks the jump off for our special Play Play look at the Bonk series! We’ll be covering 10 of the bulbous-headed caveman’s titles over the week, and well; we won’t be covering any of them in any specific order either—so deal with it or whatever.

The first game to kick off this event is Super Bonk 2 (Super Genjin 2-超原人 2 for all the cultured folk out there) on the Super Famicom, and it also happens to be one of the titles that hasn’t seen a western release either. We all know that Super Bonk is weird as shit, this sequel is somewhat in the middle as far as we’re concerned, eh…you guys be the judge.

PPR Presents Lime Light: Tempo

unny that we would be doing Lime Light on more than one 32X game year…no really, it’s actually hilarious—the opportunity to do this one was just too good to pass up. One of the exclusive titles for Sega’s Mushroom-shaped add-on is one of the reasons most Sega owners would even install the 32X, and it’s from the same people that brought us Bonk, Air Zonk, and Gungrave…We’re streaming Tempo.

Tune in around Wednesday evening, September 11th, at 5:45 PM pacific time and join us in the chat on our Twitch page, getting down with the phat beats and animation so Japanese that you’ll be shouting “Nanja korya!” at all the colors coming out of your interwebs screen.
