Life Through The Pixel Glass-11/30/13
hese days, more and more people seem to get more excited about the advent of Black Friday than the ACTUAL Holiday that precedes it; it’s kind of a bummer—especially since people keep getting hurt or even killed over savings. So here’s a friendly reminder, be thankful.
Showing gratitude for your way of life this holiday weekend and appreciating the small privileges you take for granted like the opportunity to read this editorial on some dumb video game website for instance, is habit that’d be healthy for all 365 days of the year but on the day of Thanks and the .
Spread it around with everyone and especially the ones that you love.
So that’s enough of that shit, let’s get on with the real meaty Sir Loin of this latest entry to Life Through The Pixel Glass; there’s so much superficially worthless cool garbage trash to get excited about you guys! Let’s go!
Nearly six months later and Animal Crossing New Leaf is still dominating a majority of 3DS’s around the world, and one dude is taking his fandom to a whole different level and sharing it with everyone else for a reasonable price. Edberg Panganiban AKA RezArmy is currently open to take commissions on making a custom resign figure of your New Leaf avatar down to every minute detail from clothing to anatomy, and they’re frighteningly accurate in depiction. Immortalizing your very own Animal Crossing mayor will only set you back $80, or you can get a randomly designed one for a cool $40. In return, you can own a special memento to remind you of all the countless hours you spent hunting for bells so you can buy that potted plant for your house in some dumb game, go check it out!
Another creative Etsy shop curator named Ana Petree Garcia AKA PenelopeandClyde has taken to delivering warmth this winter season in the sweetest way, cozy-ass blankets! From Bubble Bobble to The Legend of Zelda, she currently has some already made blankets available for sale and will be available to take commissions after the holidays pass, so if you’re in need of some comfort of the pixel variety then pony up some dough and score yourself one of these sweet digs.
We’ve all seen our fair share of custom consoles on the internet and the people who make them but this latest one is a bit of a doozy considering it’s a fucking TRON inspired N64! TRON has always had this futuristic sense about it no matter how old the actual property is and talented artisan, Zoki64 has constructed a console shell that transformed his N64 into something that looked like it came right out the MC server itself. Here’s a video with more details, it even lights up in a masterful display of neon strip that’s true to that TRON aesthetic.
With Earthbound Bash taking place this weekend, I figured now would a better time than any to talk about a fan project of a new Earthbound sequel that gives off an eerily faithful looking representation to Mother universe to the most minute of details. The Mother 4 staff is hard at work developing a Turn based RPG that’s akin to elements to both Earthbound and the Japanese only Mother 3 in conjunction with new elements, and so far, they appear to be on track for their slated Q4 2014 winter release. The game will be free to download for Windows, OS X and Linux, and the best part is the team behind the project investing themselves purely out of passion, and are not looking for any crowd sourcing for production funds at all. Check out the trailer and website here and get pumped for a new entry to a franchise that will continue to live eternally through its tenaciously loyal fan base.
Composer, Xavier Dang tasked himself at composing a tribute album to Megaman in the form of a fictional soundtrack to a nonexistent 11th sequel with accompanying art depicting the Robot masters for each track as well as all of the other staples in a classic Megaman game. These tunes will quickly ingrain themselves into your brain and have fantasizing about actually playing a new Megaman game with Robot Masters like Whip Woman and Surf Man just to hear these sick chip-tune licks. The album is a whopping 29 tracks and its name your own price, get on it already why don’t you, and in case you’re still not convinced, check out some of the tracks below.
We’re no stranger to independent short films that based around notable video games, but when we come across impressive like these shorts centered around Portal, we knew we just had to share them. The first one is titled “Survive” and is more or less a reenactment of an iconic scene from the mythos of the first game that was never given the amount of exposition the film aspires to portray and the result is a must watch.
The second is more of an independent affair strongly focused within the fiction of Portal in mind and is a bit more emotional to witness than the previous video, they’re both a must watch and we seriously hope their reception becomes a viable Launchpad to hype up production for future projects from these promising film makers.
So just throw this disclaimer out here before we go any further, Press Pause Radio doesn’t endorse the “Brony” culture, and we never will, but we aren’t terribly against it either (we still reserve the right to make fun of it of course.) However, when I learned that this was a thing, well, I just couldn’t deny the amount of detail and passion that went into it and, it does make My Little Pony SOMEWHAT intriguing (there I said it.) Developed by Khao Mortadios, this dude has adapted the world of My Little Pony into an 8-bit classic Megaman game and the crossover looks unnervingly seamless—it’s also fun to play too, and if you’re curiosity gets the best of you like it did me, then you can download here free for Windows. There’s a trailer too, if you know you aren’t convinced, (we won’t blame you if you aren’t.)
There’s a lot of Megaman in this LTTP, well, considering that Capcom hasn’t done a whole lot with their most celebrated franchise, it’s another job for the fan to take over until they get their shit together—and believe me when I say that the fans have outdone themselves this time. Produced by MegaPhilX and a team of other dedicated fans, have developed one of the most engaging Megaman games you’ll play in some time. With Robot Masters like Comet Woman and Yoyo Man, these stages have the same kind of brutal yet addictive challenge of Megaman 9 with an insane amount of detail to its design that could drive the folks at Capcom to pick up a notepad and take some notes. The game is free to download for Windows, with universal gamepad mapping already built in and save system modeled after 9/10, here’s a video showing off one of the stages in action if you haven’t bought my praise for it already.
