It's a legendary comparison years in the making! What's in the Game Tengoku: The Game Paradise Gokuraku Pack we got for Bullet Heaven all those years ago? And has Limited Run Games outdone themselves with the Game Tengoku Cruisin' Mix Special Paradise Box? Let's take a closer look!
When we took a look at Game Tengoku Cruisin' Mix Special on the Playstation 4, we also dove into the DLC available at the time. One thing that was not available was the Tatsujin DLC, which would be exclusive in North America to the Limited Run Paradise Box. Since then it was actually released on Steam and PSN ahead of the Paradise Box shipping, and since we got our Paradise Box last week, it was finally time to see what Tatsukin is all about! So how does it stack up?
Game Tengoku was always one of our favorite episodes of Bullet Heaven to make. It turned out pretty good back in episode 37, and the game itself is one of the best we've played on Saturn yet. But a lot of its best parts were also hidden behind a wall of Japanese that most western players likely didn't grasp. Not anymore though, as Degica Games has finally brought the new PS4 conversion to the west in Game Tengoku: The Game Paradise CruisinMix Special! There's a lot to love here... But how does it stack up?
In the 90's parody shooters were the hot new thing that every company that made shooters had to get on the bandwagon with. Starting with the legendary Parodius, several parody shooters sprung up and saw release mostly in Japan. Jaleco also joined in the fun with Game Tengoku: The Game Paradise in 1995, though all of the properties used were ancient, even at release; the newest game that elements were used from was six years old by the time Game Tengoku reached arcades, and all but one of the original games stayed (officially) in Japan exclusively. It would later be ported to the Sega Saturn in 1997. Is Game Tengoku worth a look after all...?
