QCF: Fable: The Journey

The Kinect is still a concept that’s fairly challenging to grasp. Since its release in 2010, developers have excitedly tasked themselves to produce compelling features that generate experiences involving full body motion unlike anything we’ve ever seen beyond the limitations of a tactile interface like a controller. The reality, however, is ironic in its own right. All of the restrictions Kinect enforces through strict regulated motions lack the access of multiple utilities of the very same interface it wishes to advance from, resulting in the production of a few successful titles from its integration, and some dreadful failures to match.

QCF: Max Payne 3

In São Paulo, Brazil, we find the former lawman Max Payne wallowing in his usual grizzled disposition towards life and the current state of affairs he finds himself in. Payne is providing his services as direct high-end security for the illustrious Branco family against any who mean them any harm.

Picking up nine years since the last entry to the series, Rockstar Vancouver plans to take Max to new grounds and deliver features, both familiar and new for the modern generation. However, with the absence of Sam Lake’s writing and a new studio taking the reins, one has to wonder if Max Payne is long for this world, one that’s been overwhelmingly saturated with shooters during his leave of absence.

PAX East 2012: Max Payne 3: Hands-on Preview

Pinned down behind a bar booth, Max counts his odds against a desperate gunfight with the mob in a rundown billiard hall. Max starts to feel the ache in age as his partner Raul runs to take cover to the right, preparing to lob bullets into their attackers. The Max Payne series, seemingly forgotten since 2003, has resurfaced this generation with Max Payne 3, and waits to be released on May 15. Right now, however, it is currently playable to all in attendance at PAX East 2012. I decided to stop by and see what the fuss was all about.

QCF: Mass Effect 3

This review was freelanced by writer and friend of the cast James Wells.

It’s hard not to come at Mass Effect 3 without the squeal of a fanboy who has invested five years of his life into the series. Bioware’s space opera is one of the best things to happen to sci-fi in the last 20 years, and with the third installment bringing the epic story of Commander Shepard to a close, the big question is whether Bioware could  live up to its promise of making your decisions matter to a story five years in the making. For the most part, the Edmonton studio has achieved that promise, however impossible it may have seemed.

QCF: Space Marine

As the light sets in, The Ultramarines, one of thousands of chapters within the rank of Space Marine are called into action to defend against the threat of an Ork invasion and uncover the motive behind their rampage. Its leader, Captain Titus, instills a solemn nod of confidence to the Space Marines under his command and leads them to the battle.

Space Marine is the newest attempt to branch the War Hammer 40,000 franchise beyond its table-top roots into another entry into the video game realm. Relic Entertainment tasked their efforts towards delivering an experience faithful to all who are loyal to War Hammer 40K, yet enjoyable enough to appeal to anyone unfamiliar with 40K’s expansive lore. But one question remains: have they succeeded?

Bullet Heaven HD, Episode 38- Shooter: Space Shot

In episode 34 of Bullet Heaven, we looked at a virtually unknown gem called Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein. It was an example of a $10 budget game done right, and scored very well as a result. Shooter: Space Shot is Starfighter Sanvein's direct predecessor in North America in the A1 line of games (though developed by different company) and shows that shooters for less don't necessarily mean good value...

Bullet Heaven HD, Episode 34 - Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein

Bullet Heaven gets a surprise! In this episode, we take a look at Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein for the PSone. Released in 2001 as part of the Agetec A1 line of $10 budget games, Starfighter Sanvein isn't exactly your typical shooter, and was largely ignored thanks to its ultra budget, no-frills advertising. Was it ever worth a look? And does it hold up today?
