PPR Presents Play Play: Knuckles' Chaotix

onic Mania is fast approaching, and while we don’t have our review ready just yet, we do have a few special looks at some choice cuts from the Blue Blur’s past that we think have influenced the direction seen in the new 2D throwback.

The first game in this little mini-series of ours is Knuckles’ Chaotix for the SEGA 32X. While this one is particularly obscure, it’s certainly notable for being the only 2D Sonic title that was developed for a 32-bit platform, as paltry as the 32X may seem to that distinction—and weirder enough, Sonic isn’t even playable in it.

Join Ser and George as they wax some nostalgia with equal parts trivia over may arguably be one of the most bright-ass games you’ll ever see in this latest Play Play!

PPR Presents Play Play: Tembo The Badass Elephant

elieve it or not, the titles that Game Freak develops that aren’t a Pokémon title, truly are the bizarre, and weird ones from their wheel house. Whether it’s an digital electric hero, or a drill happy jewel thief, the move-right-and-jump variety of games they release are just plain strange.

Like a militarized mercenary elephant with a chip on his shoulder, and we’re talking like, some shades of PTSD; like, what?

Published by Sega, we have Tembo The Badass Elephant, and he’s been tasked to take out some purple terrorist dudes, and George and Stevie are going to help lead the charge, and see if the game lives up to the studio lives up to the pedigree of the previous side-scrollers they’ve released.

Spoiler; George doesn’t think so, and Stevie tries to play the straight man in this latest Play Play.

PPR Presents Play Play: Sonic Dreams Collection

isten, we know that there’s a deep, dark, and rather unsettling element to the Sonic The Hedgehog community that will never go away, and we’ve all gone on to accept it, hell, even SEGA is kind of over it at this point.

What we never expected was a celebration of fetishizing the hedgehog in the form of a game for every to quote unquote “play.”

We’re not going to spare any bones about it; Sonic Dreams Collection is weird, and a little nightmarish, and we here at Press Pause Radio have decided to show you around, and uhhh, get disgusted for you…or we mean, with you—enjoy?

QCF: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

hen the concept art for the new character designs of Sonic and his friends was first revealed, I was immediately outraged as I’m sure everyone else was, but I knew that even though I didn't like the designs, that didn't necessarily mean Sega would put out yet another terrible Sonic game.

 I was wrong.

QCF: Freedom Planet

ey there, I'm sure I can ask you all a question right—do you like Sonic the Hedgehog? Me too, and apparently so do the developers over at GalaxyTrail. Unlike most games that take influence from other IP's, Freedom Planet doesn't do anything to try to hide it, in fact, it displays it's love for the sonic franchise loudly and proudly.

The game really feels like a spiritual successor of sorts, which is great considering Sega managed to drive their own franchise into the ground. Although this game borrows a lot from classic Sonic's gameplay, it has its own unique flare and tone.

PPR Presents Play Play: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD-Alpha

hile the newest Sonic game that’s currently in development may care too much about athletic tape, there’s still hope for another title that was originally hyped to be one of the prettiest remakes of the Blue blur’s most iconic venture. Yeah, that’s right, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 HD is back on track, and George takes a few minutes his day, and yours to tell y’all why you should give a shit as he plays the original Alpha build.
This all looks gorgeous right now, sure, but the team is currently laboring towards the new engine to look even prettier...

Sonic: The Marathon - Interview with Tyler Smart

ll too often, uninformed pundits and the general populace believe almost too entirely that nothing good can come of video games. Although there are several studies to the contrary, there seems to be a general consensus among the ignorant; video games invariably lead to brain rot, obesity and violent behaviour. However, over the weekend one man proved without a doubt that there is all kinds of good to come out of gaming as well.

QCF: Sonic Lost World

ega has struggled to not only adapt their star hedgehog into the modern generation of gaming, a title that can properly reclaim the fame the blue dude held in the gaming community; these days, the spiky-haired dude with attitude is lucky to be relevant outside of the younger demographic or die-hard fans. A number of things have always held him back like lack of proper game physics, stage design, or mechanics to deliver that trademark speed or some overtly gimmicky mechanic that tarnishes everything.

Despite Lost World fitting that infamous aforementioned profile on first impression, it defies expectations by successfully delivering that authentic Sonic experience; one that actually transitions the blue blur into a 3D environment that’s more playable than any of the previous efforts within the last decade.

Granted, while a certain galactic inspired approach in Sonic Team’s latest avant-garde for the hedgehog plays a large role in making Lost World genuinely fun to play for a Sonic title, it’s still littered with flaws that hold it back from being a must-play, let alone the best.
