QCF: ModMic USB & ModMic Wireless REVIEW

We have been using Antlion Audio's Mod Mics for some time now; the quality of our livestreams has been top notch, thanks to the quality of the microphones that Antlion produces. So naturally, we were quite excited to check out their latest gear: The ModMic USB and ModMic Wireless!

For those not in the know, the ModMic line can turn any pair of headphones into a kickass headset. All ModMics simply adhere to the side of a pair of headphones with a magnetic anchor and voila: a custom gaming headset that sounds great for both the speaker and the listener. Thanks to the strength of the magnets in the modmic's sockets, they'll stay in firmly in place, but players can also simply remove the mic from their headphones when not in use.

We have always used AudioTechnica headphones for as long as we've made content, so being able to stream with an excellent mic without losing the sound quality we've gotten used to is fantastic.

The new line of ModMics are even more plug and play than before; with the ModMic USB, players simply plug the mic into any USB port and that's it. The included cable clasps hold the ModMic's cabling right alongside the player's headphones'.

But the ModMic Wireless is even simpler; plug in the included USB dongle, hold both buttons until the Blue LED flashes rapidly and they'll sync. That's it. No wires to mess about with, making for a clean, easy setup. Bonus points if using wireless headphones!

Both the USB and Wireless have a switch in the mic capsule that allows users to select omnidirectional capture for a more general recording field and a unidirectiondal setting for a more directional, focused field. But how do they sound? We find out in the latest Random Play.

QCF: Antlion Pro Gaming MM-28 Über-wide Mousepad

ou need a mousepad that's three feet wide. There's not much to mousepads these days that could possibly warrant a huge review, but by gum, I'll try. The Antlion Pro Gaming MM-28 Uber-wide Mousepad is a full 3 foot by 1-foot mousepad that is pretty much as great as it is excessive. As an optical mouse user, I never pondered the need for a mousepad in general and have not even used one for the better part of a decade.

So what makes this one the one to get? Why go from nothing to the whole thing? And seriously, three feet?

Modmic 5 Hardware Review

ast year, we took a look at Antlion Audio's Modmic 4, a super slick add-on that turns any existing pair of headphones that someone may have (and love) into a fantastic sounding gaming headset. The concept is super simple; You might have a great set of headphones that offer unparallelled sound clarity and you want that same output paired with an awesome mic for gaming.

A lot of gaming headsets have decent mics, but suffer in the sound department, especially for under $200.00... something that sounds implausible but happens more often that you'd think. That's where the Modmic comes in; simply stick the Modmic to your headphones with the included magnetic bracket and cord management clasps and you're good to go! We were impressed with the Modmic 4 given its low price-point and came away very satisfied with its sound quality, ease of use and flexibility.

QCF Hardware Review: Antlion Audio ModMic 4.0

here are very few things that I'm really picky about in life, but one thing that drives me mad is terrible audio quality. A great many headsets – with Turtle Beach headsets in specific - have atrocious sound reproduction, often with washed out mid tones, breathy, shrieking highs and not enough bottom end. The result is a nasty migraine if listened to for too long. Even then, the microphone quality can suffer even on higher-end headsets, no matter the cost. Without going to a $350.00+ solution with a very expensive cardioid or ribbon mic, a good set of headphones and a mixer to bring it all together via USB, could there actually be a way to marry an existing, great-sounding set of headphones that you already use with an excellent quality mic instead? Which now leads us to the big question; what if you could do it for just $50?
