PPR presents Limelight: Kirby's Dreamland 3

t’s a shame when there are games that release during those weird time windows or conditions that subject it to the depths of obscurity; and one such game is one of the best starring Nintendo’s pink stud.

Kirby’s Dreamland 3 was released back in 1997 on the SNES, more than a year after the release of the ongoing and mind-blowingly advanced Nintendo 64—it’s a real shame a lot of people haven’t played it, let alone heard of it. That’s why we’re taking it upon ourselves to stream it with George taking the lead, and fret not guys, if you’re loving what you’re watching then you can find the gem on the Wii U’s Virtual Console the Kirby Anniversary Collection on Wii.

You guys can tune in (and subscribe to us while you're at it) around Sunday evening, March 2nd, at 6:00 PM pacific time and join us in the chat as we get adorable as fuck with some 16-bit crayon effects!

QCF: Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds

hile the consensus is more arguable than mainstream, it’s more apparent than ever that one of the most revered franchises in video games is experiencing a wave of disenchantment in the more recent years of the present game climate, and more players have come forward with their fatigue towards the series. You might have heard of it, it’s called The Legend of Zelda.

Ironically the iconic Nintendo property of late, has been more instrumental in inspiring successes in new franchises that liberally imitate it while failing to significantly innovate itself beyond its esteemed but frankly aged conventions—that is until now.

Nintendo and Monolith entered dangerous territory when announcing that they were working a direct sequel to what many consider the greatest video game of all time that could never live up to the legacy it holds to this day; if Link to the Past is Rocky then consider Link Between Worlds Rocky IV.

This 3DS entry is a shining example that the magic of The Legend of Zelda is very much alive, transporting all who play it into a very familiar and yet robust Hyrule, with tons of astonishment and whimsy in store from start to finish.

QCF: Super Mario 3D World

einvention, a simple concept constructed on the notion of reimagining any established creative property with the advantage of it definitively cutting the work out towards its execution by branching off the strength into something new—and yet, difficult to perfect upon what worked so well to begin with. More recently, we’ve seen older franchises like Tomb Raider and Castlevania adapt their famed hallmarks to fit into a different format design modern sensibilities that make use of the latest tech to advance the franchise; some have made it work, and others, not so much.

However, there are moments like these that can completely turn around a promising yet troubled new console that’s struggled for the better part of its first twelve months, The Wii U has finally received its killer app.

Super Mario 3D World isn’t just the best reason to own a Wii U—it manages to set a new benchmark in redefining how game development can refresh historic franchises and properties into an entirely new breathtaking experience.

PPR presents Play Play: Star Tropics

ne of the strangest first-party games from Nintendo, a western-ass western game developed for the star Japanese console. Star Tropics is a little weird, a little bit of a gem even, but none of that matters because Rob Rich fucking hates this game. Before we get into some Halloween fun with our Play Plays, we decided to dive into a little bit of this forgotten game and plead that Nintendo brings bit back, or maybe we decide that it’s better off dead, who knows…

QCF: Pikmin 3

hen gamers reflect on just what’s makes Shigeru Miyamoto so legendary, some of them generally stop the buck on what he’s contributed like Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, but others acknowledge what truly makes the man significant; his ability to imagine entire video game worlds built around concepts inspired from his everyday life.

Take for instance, Shigeru’s love for gardening, it spawned one of most criminally underrated franchises in Nintendo’s first-party line up—the 3rd title in the series takes the best out of what the Wii U can offer, resulting in that trademark Nintendo charm that keeps them in the game in the first place.

Life Through The Pixel Glass-10/04/2013

ow, so this is awkward…it’s been a while since we’ve done one of these right? Yeah, well…we’re picking up our stride again. With the videos and reviews we’ve picked the pace up on, it only makes sense that we get LTTPG going again. For those who are late to the party, have horrible attention spans, or you simply despise me to the point where you tune out whatever I say on the podcast anyway; I just recently moved and though it’s been more than a month since—I’m still catching up.

Nevertheless, fear not, there’s plenty of nonsense to hit the site soon. Even though next month is going to be insane for everyone, and the wait for the new consoles to launch may even seem unbearable for the lot of us but you should just hang back and relax. We have plenty of shit to throw at you and we can all just pass the time together, this is Life Through The Pixel Glass—welcome back.

PPR 78

ey guys, remember when we all played that sweet RPG on the Super Nintendo Bahumat Lagoon? No? What about Seiken Densetsu 3, you guys had to have played that right? Gyakuten Kenji 2? Everyone is killing me! Oh, wait, what’s that? You say that none of those games ever came out to North America; yeah, we know that, that’s why there’s the wonderful culture of import gaming. The charming Stevie, cynical James, pugnacious Ser, and scumbag Georgie bring you the latest PPR and this week, they talk about some video games y’all. Topics range from sharing our respects towards Hiroshi Yamauchi and Nintendo’s sordid past with love hotels, the price difference of Zebra bed sheets versus Tiger bed sheets, Super Mario Bros: The Movie 2: the comic, Sega buying Atlus, and so much more in this shit storm of a podcast.
