QCF: Wintermoor Tactics Club (Steam)

The older I get, the more I miss my D&D group. I have so many great memories of our various adventures, some that were recorded here on Press Pause Radio for a podcast called Critical Fail. I had to stop playing on a regular basis once I started having children, and nowadays I look back on those days and realize how important that group and those antics were for me at the time. The same can be said for the group of students that make up the Tactics Club in Wintermoor Tactics Club. However, the difference for this organization at the fictional Wintermoor Academy in 1981 is that their bond and abilities may save the world while participating in a snowball tournament dubbed “The War of Clubs”.

QCF: The Procession To Calvary (Steam)

t can be difficult to find something new and interesting in the genre of adventure games, a form of media that has existed for over forty years. In The Procession To Calvary, it’s creator Joe Richardson is able to create an unapologetic and humorous entry into the market utilizing free use artwork from the Renaissance and public domain music that is a refreshing ode to the cutout hilarity of Monty Python. And although the mechanics of the game are also laughable, it does not take away the fact that it has a sense of humor that was exactly on my level of gross and stupid.

House Show: Fred Durst is the New Undertaker

Greetings, this is the pilot episode for House Show we recorded after Wrestlemania. We at Press Pause Radio have discussed for awhile about doing a wrestling podcast and now that there are dozens upon dozens of wrestling podcasts already in the space we figured we might as well give it a shot. Toast and his co-host Bull talk about the events of Mania and what's to come in the future. Check it out and be sure to tune into the show with new episodes coming soon.

PPR Limelight: Guilty Gear: Strive Closed Beta

have been looking forward to checking out this latest installment in the Guilty Gear franchise since it was announced at last year's EVO. The online servers should be live on Friday, April 17 2020 at 11:00pm EST. Come and watch me be absolute garbage online, or maybe just staring at a loading screen while the servers try to connect. Arc System Works are implementing a rollback netcode for the online, so fingers crossed it will work!

QCF: Bubble Bobble 4 Friends (Switch)

t the time of this review, many have found video games to be a way to escape the uncertainty and harshness of an ever-changing structure in society. What has surprised me, however, is how video games and sharing that passion to those that may not have had any interest in the past can take our minds off that stress and uneasiness, if even for just a little bit. I have a bit of familiarity with the protagonists of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, mostly from the spin-off Puzzle Bobble but I did not spend too much time with the Taito titles from decades ago. This current iteration published by ININ Games does a great service to fans of those original entries while introducing the series to a new audience, myself and various members of my family included. Although there are some features and additions to the gameplay that are lacking, I am glad that this title and the cooperative nature it promotes is available to enjoy while we adjust to finding entertainment in the comfort of our homes.

QCF: Broken Lines (Steam)

hen deciding to review Broken Lines I was unsure why I was so interested in playing it. I am not good at all at strategy games of any kind, and I have very little interest in war themed entertainment. Then I realized what it was that drew me to the Steam digital game released by Super! Publishing. I thought back to other games that tackled turned based strategy in an alternate timeline of war in the twentieth century, and I was eager to see how the developer PortaPlay would approach this hybrid of RPG and tactics. I was happy to find out that Broken Lines takes influence from strategy games from the current generation and the recent development of mental state mechanics of newer independent role-playing games to create a solid entry into the genre. A story that sometimes misfires and AI that can frustrate does not take too much away from a challenging and satisfying experience.

QCF: Super Crush KO (Switch)

So far in my brief experience with the Nintendo Switch, I have enjoyed several beat-em-ups and action games. However, I seem to struggle with the titles that rely heavily on combo-driven combat and precise controls. Something like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry would be a struggle for not only a novice such as myself, but for playing on a Switch that is never hooked up to a television or using a controller. Thankfully the fine individuals at Vertex Pop have made a name for themselves releasing approachable and stylish indie games that do not compromise on the action. Their latest release, Super Crush KO is a colorful and stylish hybrid of the above-mentioned genre and run ‘n gun that although is short to complete and possibly less of a challenge for experienced players, nonetheless is a worthwhile addition to the platform.
